A field report for Part 135 Directors of Operations
The Hidden Data Sitting Inside Your Operation Right Now That Could Prevent Your Next Incident
What your compliance system isn't telling you — and how to walk into your next budget conversation with evidence instead of instinct.
Prepared ahead of the FAA's Part 5 SMS full-compliance and declaration deadline — May 28, 2027.

You have acknowledgment logs. Signed bulletins. A shared drive full of revised manuals and a spreadsheet that says every pilot on your roster has read them. On paper, your operation is clean.
What it cannot prove is whether they understood it. Acknowledgment is a distribution metric, not a knowledge metric — and the gap between the two doesn't show up on an audit. It shows up, if it shows up at all, in an incident report.
- The comprehension gap between "acknowledged" and "understood," and why it's invisible to a standard audit trail.
- The question pattern hiding in what your pilots ask (or don't ask) — and what it tells you before it becomes an incident.
- Bulletin lag: how long it actually takes a superseded procedure to stop being taught, versus how long you think it takes.
What we build
1903 Systems builds software for Part 135 flight departments. Our first product is CurrentOps: currency, compliance, and safety signal in one record.
CurrentOps is not an approved training program and not another place to store PDFs — it's a layer that sits on top of the manuals and bulletins you already have, and turns what your pilots are already doing — reading, studying, asking questions — into fleet-wide safety signals that can be acted on.
Every revision is distributed to pilots' phones, and acknowledgment isn't a read receipt — it requires passing a short comprehension check tied to that revision, so there's a real record that a rule was learned, not just delivered. Pilots study their own operator's manuals, limitations, and company bulletins inside the app, with an always-cited assistant that answers only from their operator's approved material and shows the exact page it came from. What comes back to the operator is de-identified and fleet-level: a section the whole fleet misreads surfaces as a latent hazard for your SMS, instead of staying invisible until an incident.
CurrentOps by 1903 Systems. Built for pilots, by pilots.
Who's behind this
CurrentOps is built by Seth Erickson — a combat veteran and airline transport pilot with nine aircraft type ratings.
Every design decision in CurrentOps comes from the other side of the problem: from acknowledging revisions in a crew car between legs, and from knowing the difference between having read a bulletin and actually knowing what changed.
1903 Systems LLC is based in Austin, Texas.
That is what CurrentOps was built to be — not another training platform, and not another place to just store PDFs. The place where distribution, verified comprehension, and the safety signal underneath both finally live in one record, so your next conversation with your CEO, or your POI, starts with evidence instead of instinct.
The Hidden Data Report
A seven-page field report for Part 135 Directors of Operations who already have a compliance system — and already suspect it isn't telling them everything.
No vendor pitch. No curriculum rebuild. No rip and replace.
Written for professionally managed operations of ten or more pilots. If your current acknowledgment system is good enough for you, this report will make you uncomfortable.
